The ADAPT Psychotherapy Approach

Matt Keck The ADAPT Psychotherapy Approach The fundamental principle behind the work that I do is that life is constantly presenting us with new challenges and problems and that the only way to navigate through those problems is to learn to adapt.
Adapting is different from changing. Changing suggests there is something inherently wrong with a person that needs to be altered. Adapting recognizes that there is something inherently right about the person. Their environment has presented them with a situation in which they need to reevaluate themselves and take action. It is the task of each of us to find a way of living that is most adaptive, even in difficult situations. We have the power to adapt to almost any situation.

Matt Keck AThe ADAPT Psychotherapy Approach ADAPT is not necessarily a new therapy, but rather a new way of utilizing the most effective, proven therapies. The adapt approach uses the most recent innovations in psychotherapy to help clients through whatever issue they currently face. Objective data is collected throughout the process so that the client can see how the process is working.
The process is collaborative and dynamic, the therapy itself adapts according to what is needed, and it empowers the client to take an active role in their own treatment.

One common complaint about traditional psychotherapy is that it doesn’t always materialize into action. A key component of the ADAPT approach is that it is action-directed. We make important wellness behaviors a part of the process and build upon them not just to solve a problem, but to create a lasting adaptive behavioral pattern.

Those were a few of the elements of the ADAPT approach. An easy way to remember them is just to think of the word:

Action-
Directed
Adaptive
Psycho-
Therapy
